April Awareness: What cause do you support this month?
With so many causes seeking support and more springing forth each year, it can be hard to keep up with the many issues we are implored to support. Each and every month of the year is host to dozens of awareness groups vying for our attention. Here's a list I found (certainly not exhaustive) of all the things we are supposed to give heightened awareness to for the month of April. Some are national, some are local, but all are worth checking into.
- Alcohol Awareness Month
- Autism Awareness Month
- Child Abuse Prevention Month
- Counseling Awareness Month
- IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) Awareness Month
- Math Awareness Month
- National Cancer Control Month
- National Poetry Month
- National Sarcoidosis Awareness Month
- National STD Awareness Month
- National Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness Month
- Rabies Awareness Month
- Sexual Assault Awareness Month
- Sjogren's Awareness Month
- Sports Eye Safety Month
- Stress Awareness Month
- Thyroid Awareness Month
- Women's Eye Health and Safety Month
- Workplace Conflict Awareness Month
- Yukon Biodiversity Awareness Month

News for Attachment Parenting International (API)
The principles behind attachment parenting are ones that, for me, resonate with my core personal values. They just make sense. I remember learning about attachment as a psychology major in college, and then again in graduate school. Even then, I knew they reflected some of my deepest beliefs but it was not until we were expecting my daughter years later that the ideals behind attachment parenting became concrete and real.
Babywearing is strongly associated with attachment parenting's 8 guiding principles and I believe they reflect a great deal about what attachment parenting is all about -- the natural, deeply held connection to your child and honoring that connection. Fortunately, parents themselves can become connected with others who feel the same through Attachment Parenting International.
Attachment Parenting International (API), a non-profit organization that promotes parenting practices that create strong, healthy emotional bonds between children and their parents, has several exciting changes they would like to announce, including:
- A newly redesigned web site and new logo at Attachment Parenting.org;
- Attachment parenting worldwide support forums;
- Parent Education Program - a comprehensive series of classes for every stage and age of child development from infancy through adulthood;
- A new book based on API's Eight Principles of Attachment Parenting by API co-founders Lysa Parker and Barbara Nicholson which is expected to be available this summer;
- A series of podcasts, webinars, chats, and forums with API Advisory Board members and other supporters of AP. Future events are scheduled with Dr. Bob Sears, Dr. James McKenna, and Kathleen Kendall Tacket. Check out the events page for more information.

My Cheerful Little Chico Bags
I was just telling my hubby the other day how happy it made me to roll my shopping cart to the car with all my cheerful, colorful little bags holding my groceries.
Do you have any of these yet? If not, get some. They are great, compact, and light to carry. I love my Chico Bags but until recently they were doing me no good because I always forgot to take them to the store with me. Duh! Yeah, I know.
Now I just keep them in the car so I can actually use them. Once I unload all the groceries from the sacks, I stuff them into my HEB bag and throw them back in the car.
They make great gifts too. Get yourself and a loved one some at Reusable Bags.com.
