The Collection 7

Punkin Pockets is a work in progress, as am I. I thought it might be helpful to attempt to give a summary of what this site is and will become. The best way to do that is to tell you about myself. Each weekend I will feature a post that reveals a little more about me, my beliefs, interests, hobbies, peeves, practices, oddities, and so on. This weekend features a hodge podge of seven of my favorite things to collect.

  1. baby slings. I probably didn't need to tell you that, did I? Wearing Zoë has been one of the most special aspects of our relationship. The bond that we've formed and the moments we share when I'm wearing her will be memories we share forever. You should see how happy she is when she's wearing her own "babies" in her toy sling!
  2. cloth diapers & covers. Even now that Zoë is out of diapers, I find myself ooohing and aaahing over these cutest of bum coverings. Besides being so easy to take care of and healthier for baby's bottom, they are too darn adorable not to have a few in your stash. I can't wait to have another little one to wrap in cloth.
  3. shoes. When I browse the shoe section of any major department store, my eyes dilate and my heart races. I can't resist looking, touching, and trying on. I have quite a shoe collection but have been working to rid myself of the ones I've never actually worn.(BTW, did anyone see Stacey London's intriguing docudrama featuring Christian Louboutin's ingenious shoe engineering? Truly inspiring! And you already read my rave review of the most represented brand of shoe in my daughter's collection, See Kai Run.)
  4. stationery. Maybe it began with my first school supplies shopping list, then heightened when I got my very first pen pal, all the way in Scotland. It is extremely difficult for me to pen a note on anything but some chic paper and matching envelope. Just yesterday I remarked that I'm getting dangerously low on my supply of French Kitty notecards. I have a host of partially written in journals with exquisite covers that have become my daughter's playground.
  5. vintage-inspired fabrics, especially Amy Butler. I could buy yard after yard of fabric with hardly the intention to ever sew a single stitch, though I'd love to sew everything from drapes to clothes. I have enough fat quarters to warm all of Houston's homeless this winter.
  6. arts, crafts, & other hand-made items. Made either by my own hands or, more commonly, by the hands of someone with much more time and skill. Nothing says thoughtful more than baking someone a yummy dessert, making them a present, or shopping at a wahm boutique that carries hand-stitched toys made from natural and organic fabrics. I have a sewing machine that I've used to sew bean bags, baby carriers, infant dresses, and about 10 squares for a future quilt. I also have an oil painting kit that I used to paint a canvas picture for my daughter's first birthday, a wool-felting kit I used to make a friend a birthday gift, and a bunch of glass jars that I may paint or turn into snow globes a la Martha Stewart. Oh, and I have about 2 partially done scrapbooks, tons more ideas, and no skill whatsoever.
  7. pink depression glass. I vow that I am a collector of this precious glassware even though I only own part of a part of a piece of the cherry blossom collection which amounts to about 4 tiny saucers. No matter, it's my intention to collect many more pieces and pass them on to my children.
This is not an exhaustive list, by any means. I have a lot of varied interests that ebb and flow with my mood, surroundings, and life. And that's a little how this blog will be too. There will be lots about babywearing with tidbits of my curiosities and passions sprinkled in between. I've always been a thinker, and I'm trying to become a better doer. As I evolve toward this goal, it's my hope that you will tune in to share the rewards with me and let me know what you think along the way.
